2024 4-Star Wide Receiver Ric’Darious Farmer De-Commits From Pitt, Verbals to Central Florida

Pitt decommit Ric'Darious "DayDay" Farmer

Verbal commitments are just that, talk, and for the second straight year, Pitt has found that out the hard way.

A year ago, four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey was verbally committed to Pitt for the longest time before de-committing late and signing with Notre Dame.

Back on Christmas Day in 2022, four-star wide receiver Ric’Darious Farmer gave a verbal commitment to Tiquan Underwood and the Panthers’ staff. While this comes as no great surprise, Farmer announced today that he’s no longer committed to Pitt and has given a new commitment to hometown UCF.

The reason that this isn’t a surprise is because of Farmer’s decisions to visit other programs despite saying he was committed to Pitt. In June, Farmer made official visits to both West Virginia and UCF.

Although Farmer appeared to say all the right things by saying he was still happy with and firmly committed to Pitt, that obviously wasn’t the case as he was still checking out other programs — including his new school.

The loss of Farmer now gives Pitt 20 players in its class of 2024, with just one wide receiver in three-star Cameron Monteiro from Brockton, Massachusetts.

Pitt’s Class of 2024 is still ranked No. 27 by Rivals.com, with four four-star recruits: LB Cam Lindsey, RB Yasin Willis, OL Caleb Holes and DT Jahsear Whittington.

I wonder if the new qb commit influenced his decision

I highly doubt it considering he’s been looking at other schools for a long time now.

I think the NCAA needs to change the commitment process a little bit. If you give a school a verbal commitment it should be as good as signing your letter of intent. If these kids aren’t sure of their decision then don’t give a verbal commitment. But it’s all about the almighty NIL money. And UCF surely doesn’t have a legitimate qb either!

No surprise here.

Have to have an elite QB of you want elite WR’s.

Why can’t Pitt get a top QB recruit?

OC is a huge concern.

OC needs a chance to gel. 2-years is not enough to make a fair judgement. Look at Coach Duzz. Plus Veilleux is no slouch and could surprise at an elite level next year (or this year possible). I’m amazed how most seem to have already decided that Veilleux is not a high quality QB. Give OC a couple of more years before bringing out the stage-hook.

A few more years?

Did you even watch last season?

No TE play. No stretching the field. Awful, vanilla call-play. Stagnant pocket presence from Slovis n

I just watched the GT game from last season. That’s all you need to see. A listless, pathetic offense that relies on one RB. That’s all Cignetti can do.

What was most disappointing was that fact that he pushed to keep Slovis in there. Slovis had no desire to play and was terrible all season long. But Cignetti and Narduzzi refused to lift him. He was like a statue in the backfield.

Cignetti stinks.

A somewhat second string Pitt offense performed quite well against a very strong, 1st string, UCLA team. Also against Miami towards the end of the season. Give the guy/OC a chance before prematurely demanding that he be fired.

The offense was getting better until the Tennessee dl decided to pile drive Slovis into the ground (without penalty). Lost Patti so we were down to a freshman quarterback. Never recovered.

Deer in the headlights qb play doesn’t help.

With the way our current offense is structured, the chance of getting a high profile WR/Qb is slim to none. If Pitts Administration and Narduzzi are fine with being competitive but not relevant when it comes to the National conversation, then they will continue to run this system and employ our OC. Making a move would come with a higher risk but much higher potential when considering where CFB/NFL is going.

This kid was so non-committal, really, that the surprise would have been if he didn’t decommit. I say good riddance since recruits who are not genuinely enthused to be a Panther will ultimately hurt the team with a don’t-give-a-damn attitude. No amount of recruiting stars makes up for an aloof (at best) attitude. That said, their one WR recruit, Monteiro, looks like a solid 4-Star. Check out the kid’s reel and be amazed. His potential as an offensive weapon, not just as an WR, has tremendous upside.
