The landscape of college football is changing, and that change is now even extending to the presentation of the sports’ staple show.
Not only will ESPN’s College GameDay show be without some longtime voices as part of the show, but now it will also be without the song that’s become synonymous with college football. Big & Rich announced on Friday that they are ending their association with the program.
“College GameDay, it’s been an honor. Time to officially pass the torch after 16 incredible years!,” the band added to a video they posted on social media post with the news. This means College GameDay will have a new theme song for the first time in 16 years. Big & Rich’s song “Comin’ to Your City” will no longer be used.
“It’s been a great 16 years, being the voices of the College GameDay open,” Big Kenny said in the video.
“And now we’re excited to officially pass the torch to these extremely talented artists,” said John Rich. “We can’t say who just yet, but tune into ESPN on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. to find out.”
