Elizabeth Forward vs West Mifflin

West Mifflin, Pa.—The Elizabeth Forward Warriors defeated the West Mifflin Titans 24-7 on the road on Friday, September 1.

The Warriors cashed in on the scoring opportunities they received while the Titans couldn’t convert, falling just short in moments where they could have tied the game or taken the lead. Elizabeth Forward junior Charles Nigut played a pivotal role in those moments, snagging a goal-line interception. He also put the Warriors ahead for good with a third quarter touchdown carry.

West Mifflin received the opening kickoff, working a methodical drive that stalled outside the red zone. Quarterback Rich Fix barely missed a fourth-down touchdown pass in the back corner of the end zone as the Titans came away empty-handed.

Elizabeth Forward broke the ice late in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown carry from running back Jace Brown.

West Mifflin sophomore linebacker Darnell Carswell blew up the Warriors’ next drive with an emphatic third-down sack. The Titans’ best play of the night came on the ensuing drive, with receiver Isaiah Dawson picking up a 46-yard touchdown run. Left tackle Rico Steele, a senior with ten Division 1 offers, paved a massive hole for Dawson on the play.

The Titans drove deep into Warriors’ territory in the final seconds of the first half, but Nigut picked off a pass at the one-yard line to keep the game tied 7-7 at halftime.

Nigut put the Warriors up 14-7 in the third on a 20-yard touchdown carry.

Elizabeth Forward tacked on a field goal at the start of the fourth quarter, giving them a double digit lead. Brown added a five-yard touchdown run with 62 seconds to go to ice the game 24-7.
