PITTSBURGH — After three straight three-and-outs, it looked bleak for the Pitt offense — and it still might be — but Christian Veilleux responded.
Veilleux completed his first pass of the night to a streaking Bub Means for a 46-yard touchdown. It was a perfect pitch and catch in the rain, leveling the score against Louisville at 7.
Veilleux is 1-of-6 for 47 yards and a touchdown through the first quarter, and with that completion — which is also Means’ second straight game with a deep shot touchdown — it could be exactly what Pitt’s offense needs to get rolling.
He’s completed 12-of-27 pass attempts (44.4%) this season, for 145 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions (before the touchdown against the Cardinals), but the bulk of that work came in a tough situation against UNC last month. Narduzzi — and many around the Pitt facility — are excited to see what he can do in a better situation.
Pitt is tied at 7 early in the second period against the Cards.
