PITTSBURGH — When it rains, it pours. Pitt found that out in the second quarter against No. 4 Florida State.
Just when it looked like Pitt was going to take the lead against the Seminoles, the offense clicking for its biggest play of the season, disaster struck.
Konata Mumpfield, one of the few constants offensively this season, broke open — wide open — downfield early in the second quarter. He hauled in a bomb from Christian Veilleux, racing away from the Seminoles’ secondary as he neared the end zone. But as he neared the end zone, FSU safety Fentrell Cypress II ripped the ball out at the 1 and recovered the ball in the end zone.
Florida State football at the 25. It was the longest non-touchdown play at Pitt in a long time.
Despite the chance slipping away for Pitt, the Panthers’ defense stifled FSU quarterback Jordan Travis and the Seminoles offense all first quarter — forcing a fumble, a turnover on downs and two punts to keep the Panthers in the game.
Through nearly one-and-a-half quarters, Pitt and Florida State are deadlocked at 0. It’s early, but the Panthers are still firmly in the game.
81-yds Karl, had it been 82 it would have been a TD.
Meanwhile PITT leads the country in Defensive Lineman laying on the ground injured after plays.
Bonehead play. Leon Lett 2.0 You are 5 foot nothing and 100 nothing just dive for pylon.
That’s Pitt’s season summed up in one play.
Fire Cignetti today.
Narduzzi as well
Narduzzi doesn’t have the stones to fire him and Lyke doesn’t have the guts to admit she messed up extending Narduzzi.
So the FSU defender didn’t go out of bounds? Because he clearly did not reestablish himself and thusly illegally touched the ball, right?
But by touching the ball while out of bounds that makes the ball out of bounds through the end zone. No way to avoid the touchback at that point unless the facemask would have been called.
I see; don’t understand it but I’ll take your word for it.
