Pitt Confirms Game Against Wisconsin in Ireland on the Schedule

As Pittsburgh Sports Now officially informed readers in October, Pitt and Wisconsin will be playing in Dublin, Ireland in 2027.

Pitt officially announced the news Tuesday afternoon, which comes after PSN’s Mike Vukovcan reported the news on Oct. 2. Pitt and Wisconsin will play at Aviva Stadium in Dublin in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic on Aug. 27, 2007 — week 0 of the 2027 season.

“This is an absolutely tremendous opportunity for our football program, not only athletically but also culturally,” Director of Athletics Heather Lyke said in the Pitt release. “Visiting a new continent will be a life-changing experience for our student-athletes. The trip to Ireland will be something that members of our program—student-athletes, coaches, staff and also our tremendous donors and fans—will always remember. Pitt football will have this memorable international exposure along with the benefit of a national Week Zero television audience.”

It’s the second leg of a two-year scheduling tie that features a matchup at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisc. on Sept. 19, 2026. While it will be a neutral site matchup in Dublin, the Panthers have been designated as the home team.

PSN was originally told that the Pitt athletic department was in favor of doing this as a reward/attraction for the season ticket holders in order to make a trip for a non-conference game, something that hasn’t been done in a while.

“What an honor it is for our Panthers to receive an invitation to play in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin,” Pat Narduzzi said in the release. “As a coach, you want the young men in your program to have impactful personal experiences, on and off the field. I am grateful our team will have the opportunity to play in this special game against a great opponent like Wisconsin.”

Pitt has played Wisconsin three times in program history, with wins in all three games, but there hasn’t been a meeting since 1967.

Not sure what the reward/attraction is for those season ticket holders that cant/dont spend on making the trip to Dublin.Just see as losing a home game off of the schedule..

Visiting Dublin is MUCH more appealing than visiting anywhere in PA. Looking forward to the trip
