PITTSBURGH — No. 10-seed Beaver Falls trailed late in the fourth quarter, but used a final drive that let them defeat No. 1 Steel Valley 14-12 in the WPIAL Class 2A Championship game Friday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium.

Beaver Falls (9-5) becomes the second WPIAL team to win the Championship as the No. 10 seed, as Union did it last season in 1A against Bishop Canevin. This is their sixth WPIAL title, the first since 2020, and is also revenge for last season, in which Steel Valley (10-2) defeated them 34-14 in the Championship game.

The first half saw both teams struggle to find anything offensively, with Beaver Falls amassing 45 total yards and Steel Valley getting 102 yards.

Ironmen junior running back/linebacker Donald Barksdale led his team on the second drive. He would rush for all 47 yards, including a 13-yard scoring touchdown to give the Ironmen a 6-0 lead after a failed two-point conversion.

The best chance for Beaver Falls came in the early in the second quarter when they got into the red zone. Senior quarterback Kadin Brickner threw a pass in the end zone, but Steel Valley senior defensive back Deshaun Johnson broke it up to force the turnover on downs.

Brickner would led the Tigers to score in the third quarter to tie the game. He completed three big passes to senior wide receiver Da’Sean Anderson, the first to get the Tigers in the red zone, the second on fourth down to get in the red zone and then the third in the back of the end zone for the tying touchdown.

Beaver Falls looked like they were on their way to score midway through the fourth quarter, but Steel Valley senior defensive lineman Joe Ketterman forced a fumble on senior running back Da’talian Beauford. Steel Valley junior defensive tackle Rasaun Hough took the fumble and ran 78 yards for the score to put his team up 12-6 after another failed 2-point conversion.

The Tigers once again leaned on Bricker and Anderson on the next drive. The duo completed twice on fourth down and Beauford would make up for his fumble, by not only rushing in for a four-yard score, but also getting in the two-point conversion to take a 14-12 lead.

Anderson would seal the game late for Beaver Falls, as he made an interception in the end zone, to win the WPIAL title for his team.
