PITTSBURGH – It wasn’t pretty at the Petersen Events Center Tuesday night. Pitt (5-2) dropped its second game of the season, 71-64, to the Missouri Tigers in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

Pitt shit only 34% from the floor and 25% in the second half. The Panthers missed six free throws (25 of 31), including two front ends of the 1-and-1. Bub Carrington was 4 of 14 from the field and 1 of 7 behind the arc. Ishmael Leggett missed seven of the eight shots he attempted and missed all five three-point attempts. Eight of his 10 points came at the free-throw line.

Following the game, head coach Jeff Capel and forward Blake Hinson discussed the loss and what the Panthers need to do better entering their first conference matchup. Hinson totaled a team-best 22 points and five triples on eight attempts. The senior played over 38 and a half minutes in the defeat.

Up next, Pitt hosts Clemson in its ACC tip-off game Sunday at 2 p.m.

As much improvement coach Cappel has brought the team, they still have a tendency to ‘run and gun’ and play lousy defense. And if you’re going to hurry up on offense, and run a fast break? Get the ball to the rim for the shot.. Pitt runs a fast break, then somebody pulls up and Jack’s up a 30 foot shot? And too often miss the shot? Sometimes the shots don’t even hit the rim? Pitt needs to develop an efficient half course offense. Slow it down.Use the shot clock.Run more half court sets. Especially with the lead.
