The first NET rankings of the season have been revealed.

Pitt basketball ranks No. 60 in the initial NET. The Panthers (5-3) are a combined 0-3 in Quad 1, Quad 2, and Quad 3 games following losses to Clemson, Florida, and Missouri, respectively. The selection committee utilizes the NET to further its debate to fortify the NCAA Tournament bracket.

Jeff Capel’s team is 5-0 in Quad 4 games. Pitt dropped its ACC opener to Clemson 79-70 Sunday at the Petersen Events Center.

The Tigers are the top-rated ACC team (18), followed by Virginia (27), North Carolina (32), Duke (37), and NC State (53).

The rankings were for games through Dec. 3. Houston, BYU, Arizona, Creighton, and Purdue slot in the top 5. Pitt faces West Virginia in Morgantown on Wednesday for another installment of the Backyard Brawl.

This team is young ,but getting better. Nobody cares about December in March. Remember this game when they make the big dance.

Let’s see a NET of 60. With 32 automatic bids that puts them squarely out as of now. And contrary to those who blather cliches, November and December games are weighed just as heavily as February by the committee. But unfortunately with this dummy on the sidelines Pitt won’t be in consideration for a bid. 14-18.
