Is it too late for Cam Lindsey to play basketball, too?
Lindsey — a 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker on the gridiron — signed his Letter of Intent Wednesday to play college football at the University of Pittsburgh, and he scored 23 points Thursday to lead Aliquippa High to a 69-64 win against Chartiers Valley. Two points stood out more than the others, though.

Lindsey leaped nearly out of the gym to grab a missed shot out of the air, soaring over a Chartiers Valley defender, corraling the ball in both hands and throwing down a right-handed slam — all in one motion.
“Oh, look out below, a man’s jam,” the broadcast crew shouted. “Oh, it’s Lindsey out of nowhere with the right-handed flush.”
Lindsey will not be an early enrollee this winter, choosing to finish his high school career at Aliquippa, so it’s pretty likely that there will be more to come from the hard-hitting linebacker on the basketball court.
Pat Narduzzi and Pitt football won’t receive Lindsey until the summer, with an arrival date likely set for May, but he’s the kind of recruit who won’t need much seasoning. He lost just three games over his high school career, winning three WPIAL titles and two PIAA titles, and he saved the best for last.
Lindsey racked up 118 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and two fumble recoveries as a senior — adding six catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns and 50 carries for 363 yards and seven touchdowns offensively. He earned Pittsburgh Union Progress Player of the Year honors for his efforts.
“It was important to me because it’s my last year putting on the red and black,” Lindsey told PSN Wednesday on National Signing Day. “It’s all I’ve known the first 18 years of my life. This year meant the most to me, just to finish out strong and get it back for my senior class year.”
Lindsey led the Quips to a state title, the second in three years, and now he’s looking to lead his squad to WPIAL and PIAA glory on the court, too. But Narduzzi is eagerly awaiting his arrival on the South Side.
“Aliquippa linebacker Cam Lindsey,” Narduzzi introduced Lindsey Wednesday. “A really athletic guy who plays in all three phases for them. When you watch the game, I had the opportunity to watch one live game this year, I think it’s the only game I had the chance to go to at new Heinz Field, not actually Heinz Field, it’s their Heinz Field, but, you know, football player, athlete.
“I think he can play all three positions. I think he’s kind of like a SirVocea Dennis. I think he’s one of those guys that you can put at the Star, you can put at Money, you can put at Mike. I think he can do it all. And he runs down on kickoffs and knocks people’s heads off, you’re gonna watch him do that for four years. He plays downhill and aggressive like we need our guys to play here.”
Lindsey is one of the most important signees in the class of 2024, a versatile linebacker who truly has the potential to make an impact right off the rip, but for now, he will continue to throw down on the court.
Expect Cameron to be a pro in 4 years or less.
He is better than some of the current Pitt starters at linebacker.
Well we don’t have many of those so that’s not a difficult accomplishment…
