Hopewell Navy 6th Grade Girls Travel Basketball Reach Finals of South Side Tournament

Hopewell and Beaver have two of the best 6th grade girls basketball programs in Beaver County.
This afternoon they squared off in the semifinals of the South Side Travel Tournament and not surprisingly, it was a very good game.
The last time these two teams met, Beaver defeated Hopewell in overtime but today, the Lady Vikings got their revenge and are now heading to the championship game.
In the quarterfinal game at Noon, Hopewell Navy defeated Hopewell Gold by the score of 29-1. Lydia Jaquay led the Navy team in scoring with 11 points, Rilynn Davis scored 6, Talia Santia had 4, while Callie Sadler, Gia Yurcina, Vanessa Kurta and Leah Peterman each had 2 points.
In the semifinal game at 2 PM, both teams led at various points but in the end, the play of Davis was too much for Beaver to contain.
As she’s done much of the weekend, the talented guard paced the Vikings with 17 points in a 26-23 victory.
Davis scored the first 4 points for Hopewell but Beaver responded to take a 7-4 lead.
Trailing 7-6, Santia entered the game and immediately scored to give Hopewell an 8-7 lead and although it got close, they wouldn’t trail again the rest of the game.
The Lady Vikings stretched their lead to eight points, 17-9 on a basket by Leah Peterman and then 19-11 on a hoop from Isla Rock.
Beaver got with 4 points but Hopewell once again answered courtesy a free throw by Lydia Jaquay and to 22-19 but Davis immediately answered with two baskets.
In the championship game, Hopewell will have huge challenge as they take on McGuffey, who defeated them yesterday.
Best of luck Hopewell!
