Update (9:01 PM)-
The Duquesne Women’s Basketball Team led wire-to-wire in a 76-67 victory over St. Bonaventure Wednesday night at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
Duquesne (9-8/4-2 Atlantic 10) was led by Megan McConnell’s fifth double-double of the season with her 17 points and 13 rebounds, the latter of which matched her season high.
Ayanna Townsend compiled a season high 15 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting, while also bringing down six rebounds and drawing seven fouls. Amaya Hamilton had an all-around game with 14 points, six rebounds and six assists. Tess Myers also added 11 points.
Duquesne played 11 in this game and owned a decisive 36-14 edge in the paint.
St. Bonaventure (4-13/1-5 A-10) saw Isabellah Middleton put together a 15-point, 9-rebound effort, while teammates Dani Haskell and Nadechka Laccen each compiled 12 points.
Duquesne controlled the game early, converting its first six shots from the field to lead 16-3 and activate a Bonnies timeout before the first-quarter media timeout.
That run extended to 9-0 as the Dukes began to compile effort plays from extra passes, gaining position for rebounds, fighting for loose balls and growing the lead to 22 points in the latter stages of the third quarter.
St. Bonaventure outscored Duquesne by double digits in the final quarter, making challenging shots and cutting the final count to single digits.
Duquesne will next play at Davidson Sunday at 2 p.m. in a contest carried by CBS Sports Network.
