The 2024 schedule reveal may have dominated the news cycle Wednesday, but the first chance to catch Pitt football in 2024 was also revealed.

Pitt will hold its 2024 Blue-Gold Spring Game on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m. It will once again take place at Acrisure Stadium — capping the end of the 15 spring practices.

Pitt will kick off its 2024 season against Kent State on Aug. 31, also at Acrisure Stadium, with a time to be announced at a later date, but the spring game will be the first chance to see just how the team grew throughout the 15 spring practices.

The 2024 spring game, as has been the case as long as the spring game has been held, will be held at the conclusion of a busy spring session. Unlike last spring, Pitt will be implementing a brand-new offensive scheme and an almost all-new offensive coaching staff this spring. And the defense will be replacing a handful of lost starters across all three phases.

Nate Yarnell will enter the spring as the starting quarterback, but the quarterback battle between Yarnell, Eli Holstein and Christian Veilleux will be interesting to follow. There will be position battles at just about every position, including the offensive and defensive lines, linebacker and cornerback.

The spring will certainly be an important time as the Panthers look to rebound following a 3-9 season, with players to integrate offensively and defensively, and the 15 practices — with the majority of those available to the media — will be the first look at what sort of team will be fielded in the fall.

The Ed Conway Award, which is given to the most improved offensive and defensive players throughout the spring, will be awarded on the day of the spring game.

Pitt will open the 2024 season with its non-conference slate of Kent State, Cincinnati (in Cincy), West Virginia and Youngstown State before kicking off conference play against North Carolina.

Diffenbach is far better than Veilleux. I would be surprised if Veilleux is on the roster on opening day.
