Wednesday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Illinois-Penn St, James Madison-Marshall, Bruins-Oilers

Published

on

Another rough night for the Winning Picks, finishing up 1-2. Despite getting a bad line that moved 4 points up from the morning total, the under in Saint Louis/Duquesne covered. If you bet the under in every Duquesne basketball game this season, you’d be 19-7 on the year betting that; a 73%-win percentage. The Penguins could not win for us as they fell in overtime after a roaring comeback against the Islanders in the 3rd period. The Pens should honestly sign Jagr for the rest of the season, he is better than 75% of the roster right now even at 51. Pitt suffered a blowout loss to Wake Forest on the road and obviously did not cover. We moved to 163-119-3 on the year.

With the NBA season kicking off the second half tomorrow, let’s take a look at who are the current favorites to win it all. Right now, the Boston Celtics are the overwhelming favorite to win it all at +260, followed by the Denver Nuggets (+450), the Los Angeles Clippers (+500) and the Milwaukee Bucks (+650). The next closest odds are 15/1, which are the Phoenix Suns.

Not to be biased, but I do hold a Clippers NBA title future bet at 22/1, which I took all the way back in the summer. My bet size was small on this wage, but if I did cash it out at this point, I would be able to double my money. I am going to let it ride though. There is still one longshot bet out there that does have a lot of value and it is a team that has found themselves in the NBA Finals twice in the last 5 seasons: the Miami Heat.

Currently at 40/1, these are tremendous odds for a team that normally finals themselves at least in the conference finals. The Celtics are a tough team to beat out of the East, but the Heat have already proven they can get past Boston if they have to, as they did last season. It should be a fun second half to the NBA season.

Illinois Fighting Illini (-7.5) at Penn St Nittany Lions O/U 155.5 6:30 on the Big Ten Network

It has not been a great week for the Penn St basketball program. First, they were blown out on the road by Nebraska on Sunday, taking one on the chin by the Cornhuskers in a 19-point loss. The very next day, it was announced the Nittany Lion leading scorer Kanye Clary left the program. Clary did not play in the loss to Nebraska and has been recently dealing with injuries. Can Penn St get back on track in Happy Valley versus the Fighting Illini?

Believe it or not, the Nittany Lions have 3 straight wins over Illinois. However, that was with Micah Shrewsberry at the helm, and he is now at Notre Dame. The Fighting Illini have been excellent against the spread this year on the road, going 7-2. With Penn St still figuring out life without Clary, I predict Illinois to roll tonight in Happy Valley and cover.

James Madison Dukes (-6.5) at Marshall Thundering Herd O/U 155.5 7:00 PM on ESPN+

Since joining the Sun Belt Conference when their football team officially moved up to Division 1, the James Madison Dukes have taken the conference by storm and not just on the turf. The basketball program captured the hearts of America when they took down a then Top 5 ranked Michigan St team in the season opener in overtime. They haven’t stopped since then and are sitting at 24-3 heading into tonight’s game at Marshall.

Though the Dukes have an amazing record, they sit in second place in the Sun Belt behind leader Appalachian St. The Thundering Herd have struggled this season and are 11-15 ATS this year and are 1-8 straight up as an underdog. Meanwhile, James Madison is 16-10 ATS including 8-4 in road games. I believe the Dukes will be too much for the Herd tonight and will win by double digits tonight in Huntington, WV.

Boston Bruins at Edmonton Oilers (-130) O/U 6.5 10:00 PM on TNT

Prior to the All-Star, the Edmonton Oilers were rolling. They had a 16-game win streak and were one win away from tying the 92/93 Penguins for the longest win streak in NHL history. But in their first game after the break, that streak went up in smoke in a loss to the defending Stanley Cup Champion the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Oilers have picked themselves back up after that crushing loss but will now have a tough test at home versus one of the top teams in the East: the Boston Bruins. This Bruins team was the talk of the NHL last year after winning the President’s Cup but were dropped in the first round by eventual conference winner the Florida Panthers. As for tonight’s game, this should be one of the best games you will see all week in terms of talent in the NHL. I expect a hard-fought game between both sides, with the Oilers sneaking out a victory over the Bruins.

Oilers Moneyline -130, Boston Bruins 3 Edmonton Oilers 4
