Tuesday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Pitt-Clemson, Virginia Tech-Syracuse, Penguins-Canucks

The Winning Picks has hit a bit of a rough patch with another 0-3 night. Kansas St looked like an easy winner before WVU went on a run to force OT, ruining the cover. Unlike wise for the Knicks, who looked good early but did not cover. Ottawa struggled off the jump and were blown out by Washington. We moved to 170-130-3 on the year.

I have talked about different National Championship futures for college basketball this year but nothing about who will reach the Final Four. Last year, we had multiple high seeds come out of nowhere like Miami and FAU to make it to the Final Four. So, who is this year’s FAU?

There is some great value on teams like Washington St (20/1), Gonzaga (25/1) and even another Florida team like South Florida (40/1). I have a weird feeling that Washington St, if they get in which I think they will, can go on a run this tournament being the last time they will represent the PAC 12 for the foreseeable future. And they’ve beaten Arizona twice, so they can match up with pretty much anyone and not back down. If Gonzaga gets in, Mark Few’s team can make a run especially with an underdog mentally.

Now onto the Winning Picks!

Pittsburgh Panthers at Clemson Tigers (-7.5) O/U 142.5 7:00 PM on ACC Network

If Pitt wants to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive, a win at Clemson tonight will all but put them in the first four out of the tourney at the very least. The problem for the Panthers? Pitt has not beaten Clemson since 2014 when they first joined the ACC.

So, this means the last coach to beat the Tigers was Jamie Dixon, who swept the season series in 2014. Since then, the Panthers are 0-11 against Clemson, whether that has been on the road or at the Pete. Do I think Pitt can break this streak tonight? Possibly, but I will be taking the Panthers to at least cover tonight on the road. Blake Hinson has to show up tonight for that to happen, and I think he does.

Virginia Tech Hokies at Syracuse Orange (-1.5) O/U 153.5 7:00 PM on ESPNU

Don’t look now, but Syracuse could be making a late season push to get on the tournament bubble. Not like we haven’t seen this play out before. The Orange are sitting with 18 wins including a win over North Carolina, Oregon and a season sweep of Pitt. This is a team that can easily have 20 wins when the ACC Tournament starts, a few wins there could get them somehow in the 68-team field.

They will have to get through Virginia Tech first, who have struggled all year on the road, which I brought up when they faced Pitt on Saturday. The Hokies are 1-8 on the road while Syracuse is 13-2 at home this year. Take the Orange to win and cover tonight at the JMA Wireless Dome (I really still just call it the Carrier Dome).

Pittsburgh Penguins at Vancouver Canucks (-150) O/U 6.5 10:00 PM on SportsNet Pittsburgh

The Penguins start a very important western road trip as they tip it off tonight against the Pacific leading Canucks in Vancouver. After Vancouver, the Pens will then head to Seattle followed by a back-to-back with Calgary and Edmonton. Logistically speaking, you would think the NHL would start this road trip in Seattle for the Pens and then send them across the Canadian border instead of jumping back and forth between countries. Makes no sense really.

With Rust and Guentzel out for extended periods, the Pens will have to play a slower, boring brand of hockey if they want to have success on this road trip. They aren’t going to win many games if they get into the type of game they played against the Flyers on Sunday. I believe it will be a much slower scoring affair tonight to begin this crucial road trip.
