Friday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Coyotes-Senators, Dayton-Loyola Chicago, Bucks-Bulls

Late night affairs have been rough on the Winning Picks as of late, finishing 1-2 last night. We were able to win our just pick of the night, with the Warriors pulling away from the Knicks and covering at the Garden. Unfortunately, the Penguins could not find the back of the net and were sunk by the Kraken, not covering our bet. Washington St was able to fend off USC for a win but failed to cover the spread. We moved to 175-134-3 on the year, still over a 56%-win percentage.

As we begin the month of March, we are getting closer and closer to the baseball season starting. You can just feel it in the air. But one thing we don’t really have a feel on yet for this upcoming season is what the Pirates will do with last year’s #1 overall pick Paul Skenes.

The former LSU pitcher looked as good as advertised in his Spring Training debut yesterday, sitting the Baltimore Orioles top of the lineup down in order which included top prospect Jackson Holliday and starting catcher Adley Rutschman. Now here’s the burning question: when are the Pirates going to call up Skenes?

More than likely, he will start the season in Double A Altoona, barring any setbacks. A move to Triple A Indianapolis should happen sooner rather than later. Right now, on ESPN Bet, Skenes is +3000 to win NL Rookie of the Year, meaning a $10 would win you $300. If he is called up to the Pirates in late May or June, he could have a great shot at winning the award. But that is a big if, and a big if that fans could see him at all in Pittsburgh in 2024.

Now time for the Winning Picks!

Arizona Coyotes at Ottawa Senators (-190) O/U 6.5 7:00 PM on ESPN+

After falling on the road last night in Toronto, the Arizona Coyotes travel further north in Canada to the capital of the country when they take on the Senators in Ottawa. Both of these teams are pretty much out of playoff contention, so they are playing for pride and draft position at this point.

One thing these teams do well at is giving up goals. Both of these teams are Top 15 in goals surrendered this year. Ottawa is also in the Top 15 of goals scored in the NHL. With the tired legs of the Coyotes having to deal with the Maple Leafs and Auston Matthews from last night, I like the Senators to score in bunches and the over to cover in this game.

Over 6.5 Covers, Arizona Coyotes 3 Ottawa Senators 6

Dayton Flyers (-1.5) at Loyola Chicago Ramblers O/U 136.5 9:00 PM on ESPN2

The Dayton Flyers are considered one of the top teams in the A-10 this year but there is one thing that has been holding them back from being the best team: their play on the road. The Flyers are 4-3 on the road in conference play and have lost to the likes of George Mason, VCU and Richmond away from home, all three seated towards the top of the league. And tonight, they get the team right behind them in the standings in third place: the Loyola Chicago Ramblers.

Loyola Chicago normally finds themselves in the mix at this point in the season. Maybe it’s the superpower of Sister Jean, who knows. The Ramblers are 13-2 this year at home and have only lost to Richmond in conference play. I believe Loyola Chicago gets one of their biggest conference wins since joining the A-10 tonight as they will ground the Flyers and cover.

Milwaukee Bucks (-4.5) at Chicago Bulls O/U 221.5 10:00 PM on ESPN

Dayton and Loyola Chicago isn’t the only big-time basketball game happening in the Windy City tonight as the Milwaukee Bucks visit the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. The Bucks come into this game on the second leg of a back-to-back after beating the Hornets in Charlotte last night. The Bulls last played on Wednesday in a double overtime victory at home versus the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bucks forward Khris Middleton is likely to remain out for this game as he recovers from an ankle injury. Despite Middleton being out, I believe this total is set just a bit too low for this game. The over has been covered in each of the last 2 matchups between these teams and those totals were set at 233 and 226. Tonight, the total is set at 221.5, I think both these teams do enough offensively to push it over.

Over 221.5 Covers, Milwaukee Bucks 115 Chicago Bulls 110
