On Monday, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced that guard Ishmael Leggett has won the ACC’s Sixth Man of the Year award for his stellar play this season off Pitt’s bench.

Leggett received 33 votes for the award, beating out Syracuse’s Quadir Copeland, North Carolina’s Seth Trimble, Georgia Tech’s Kyle Strudivant, BC’s Mason Madsen, Florida State’s Primo Spears, and Duke’s Caleb Foster.

The Prince George’s County, Maryland native came to Pitt this season after beginning his career with the Rhode Island Rams of the Atlantic 10. After scoring 16.4 points per game last year with the Rams, Leggett is averaging 11.9 points per game and is grabbing 5.5 rebounds per game. He has started 14 games this year, but for the last stretch of Pitt’s season, Jeff Capel inserted Jaland Lowe into the starting lineup in place of Leggett. However, Capel refers to Leggett as a player who plays “starter’s minutes.” He is averaging 28.4 minutes per game, the third-most on the team.

The league also announced that freshman guard Bub Carrington earned All-Rookie honors. Carrington averaged 13.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game as a rookie out of Baltimore, Maryland. He shot 41% from the field and 31% from three-point range, and started all 31 games for the Panthers.

Pitt’s Blake Hinson earned 1st Team All ACC honors as well on Monday,

The Panthers recently claimed the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament with their win over NC State on senior night, and will take on the winner of Wake Forest Vs. Georgia Tech/Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Thursday, March 14 in Washington, D.C.

Legget was better than i thought he’d be. Nice season. The question is- if the two freshman stay, will he? With Cummings coming in will Leggett be concerned about losing time in his senior year?

Will Carrington stay? I don’t know anything about the draft process. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I was surprised to see him so high in mock drafts. for a freshman, that is.

That hype has died down. I haven’t seen him in any mock drafts since. I’ve seen Hinson in late second round and I could see with a good combine, someone drafting Bub in the 2nd, but another yr he could be a Top 20ish pick I think.

They’re saying this is the weakest draft since 2013. He could very well get a promise in the 20’s which would equate to low 8 figures for four years with options exercised. Freshman generally take around 15-20 first round slots. It should be interesting

I was afraid of that. You can’t turn down 8 figures. Now, low 7 figures over a 4 year contract could be something the NIL collective could maybe compete with. Assuming he gets additional feedback that another year in the NCAA would likely get him to the top 20 next year and earn that 8 figures. Not sure where in the draft that would be. A while ago someone at the Post Gazette mentioned they knew for a fact that the collective was working on keeping Carrington and Lowe. Obviously you can’t compete with 8 figures. But maybe they can… Read more »

Same comment twice. You’re really trying to get these good players to leave Pitt. It is a much bigger step from college to the NBA than from high school to college. Ask Justin Champagnie about that. In and out of rosters. Playing in the G league. Just an extra year or two makes a big difference in the preparation. But then you don’t really give a damn about these players’ futures.

LOL-So in your twisted mind you think that they would read this board, or follow the advice on it? Get help clown. As for Champagnie- he was never going to be drafted.

You just love to talk trash. No class at all. Did you read Coach Dambrot’s remarks about Capel. There is a man of class. Take a lesson.
As for repeating your “advice” twice and exactly the same words clown, you’re transparent.

In today’s NIL environment, who knows who will be on Pitt’s roster in 2024-25?
I hope that Carrington, Lowe, Leggett, Twins, Austin, Barnes and Kante return.
However, I don’t think Carrington does.

I guess you can’t nudge one twin out, but Jorge is simply not an ACC caliber player. And if Barnes was any good would he be redshirting on a team with a 7 man rotation?

Barnes fills a spot and puts a player in practice/bench who understands the culture. Otherwise, it might be another year with multiple open scholarships, and a thin practice squad.
There once was a time that red-shirt players developed/improved and were more valuable as upperclassmen.

I think Barnes will surprise people. I’ve heard he is a good practice player and I was sitting right behind the Pitt basket during warmups and Barnes was shooting lights out from 3 and he can really sky above the basket. Who knows what happens when the whistle blows but I wouldn’t bet against him.

Was thinking this too. Guillermo could be a stud by senior year. Dude can shoot a three and for a 7 footer that gives him and the offense a tool most teams dream of. If he gets stronger he will be a force. If Jorge can develop to the level of player Guillermo is currently, I’d be psyched about that. That’s only two years away, in other words one more recruiting class away, and we’re playing with 7 guys right now.

I also really like the two center action we’ve seen so I think there’s a role there.

Jorge was considered the better shooter when they were recruited. They BOTH have skills and they are getting better. Capel refers to Jorge as a point guard.

Jorge at 7 foot shot 36.4% from the field and 29% from 3- “getting better” you’re an imbecile (that means very stupid)

As far as opinions go, yours means nothing. You know NOTHING and you are too stupid to keep your mouth shut. Capel calls him a point guard. That indicates he has skills that you don’t know about. NOBODY listens to you, moron.Keep your anti Pitt opinions to yourself, because you’re NEVER right, Bozo.

You seem to have opinions on all of the players. You also predicted that Pitt would go 14-18. You also predicted that they would lose every game. Why would ANYONE listen to you???Coach Capel saw their talent and I’ll take his opinion over yours ANYTIME. Climb back into your hole nd let the man coach. Clown.

Good digs at that man pretending to be a loyal alumnus.
And don’t let him pretend he’s any smarter than the rest of us.
