Decision Day for Pitt 2025 4-Star QB Target Matt Zollers

It’s decision day for one of the top Pitt targets in the class of 2025.
Matt Zollers will make his college decision Thursday, choosing between Georgia, Missouri, Penn State and Pitt, and unfortunately for the Panthers, it appears as though the top-ranked quarterback is leaning elsewhere.
Zollers — a 6-foot-3, 205-pound four-star quarterback from Spring-Ford High School in Royersford, Pa. — narrowed the focus of his recruitment to his list of finalists last month. And with his decision day here, it appears as though Missouri is the school to beat for his commitment. But he visited Alabama recently, too.
He was in Pittsburgh last week, checking out a practice and hanging out with the coaching staff, but the heavy interest and national headlines point toward an unfortunate result.
He cut down a list of offers that also included Boston College, ECU, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan State, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Syracuse, Temple, USF, Virginia, Virginia Tech and UConn this offseason, but as one of the top recruits in the class, it appears his shared interest is too much for the Panthers to overcome.
Zollers picked up his first offer from Pitt last September, and he’s been out a handful of times to check out Pittsburgh. It doesn’t hurt that his older brother Zach is currently a walk-on defensive end either.
Former offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. initiated the process with Zollers, and when new offensive coordinator Kade Bell arrived, it was a seamless transition.
“(Bell has) been really good, he’s very straight up,” Zollers told Pittsburgh Sports Now earlier this year. “The type of offense he runs sounds very intriguing to play in. He seems like a very nice person. I’m going to try to go up for a visit soon, so I finally get to meet him, but I FaceTimed him a couple of times, talked to him on the phone a couple of times and have been texting him a lot.”
Zollers made it out last for game-day visits against Cincinnati and Louisville, and his first-ever visit was all the way back in 2021.
“(The visits) were good,” Zollers said. “It was really cool to see everything. After the second one, they won. So, I got to go into the locker room to see what happens after a win. So, that was cool to see. They were nice.”
Zollers was almost unstoppable as a junior at Spring-Ford, completing 182-of-290 pass attempts (62.8%) for 2,917 yards with 37 touchdowns to two interceptions — adding 420 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns.
247Sports rates Zollers as the 62nd-ranked recruit in the class (sixth-ranked quarterback and top-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania) while Rivals rates him as the 24th-ranked quarterback and ninth-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania — holding a 5.8 Rivals Rating.
Zollers would be an excellent pickup in the class of 2025, especially as one of the top targets in the class, but it appears as though his commitment would be a surprise. He’s a very talented recruit in the class, one the Panthers wanted, but it seems as though he’s headed elsewhere. And that’s okay. The search for a second quarterback in the class will — in all likelihood — continue.
Pitt has already secured two commitments in the class of 2025, including three-star quarterback Mason Heintschel (Oregon, Ohio), and with Heintschel and three-star defensive lineman Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), and there will be more on the way in the coming weeks and months.
