Blake Hinson Shows Out on Day Two of NBA G League Camp

Former Pitt men’s basketball star Blake Hinson is looking to translate his game into the NBA and he flashed glimpses of what he can do at the next level on Day 2 of the NBA G League Elite Camp.

In 20 minutes of action as a starter on Sunday for Team Two, Hinson showcased a little bit of everything by grabbing rebounds, attacking the rim, driving on defenders and — as advertised — burying a pair of 3-pointers.

It all culminated to a game-high 18 points on 7 of 16 shooting, along with a team-high six rebounds and two assists. Hinson’s performance helped Team Two take down Team Three, 90-78.

During Day One, Hinson played sparingly off the bench in 13 minutes as he scored five points on 2 of 6 shooting, while adding a triple and grabbing one rebound.

Hinson was one of 45 players invited to the camp at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The two-day event is an opportunity to give NBA Draft prospects a chance to put their skills on display for NBA scouts, coaches and front-office executives.

Based on player performance, “a select number of players from the draft-eligible group will be invited to participate in the 2024 NBA Draft Combine later in the week,” according to a NBA G League release.

While Hinson is still holding out hope for a combine invite, the Panthers will be represented by guard Bub Carrington with it spanning from May 12 through the 19.

Hinson finished off his Pitt career this past season averaging 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In 33 starts, the 6-foot-8 forward shot 45.4 percent from the floor and added 110 triples on 42.1 percent behind the arc. Thanks to his outstanding senior season, Hinson was named to the First-team All-ACC squad.

It’d be nice if he got at least drafted in the end of the second round.

It would be NICER if he got drafted in the first round.
