A-10 Men’s Basketball Tournament Coming to Pittsburgh

The A-10 men’s basketball tournament will return to Pittsburgh for the league’s 50th anniversary in 2026, the conference announced Tuesday.

The tournament will be hosted at PPG Paints Arena, for the first time since 2017, after the conference athletic directors finalized a decision to return to Pittsburgh during last week’s annual spring meetings.

“We are excited to return to Pittsburgh in 2026 to celebrate the league’s history in a city that was integral to the beginning of the Atlantic 10,” A-10 commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade said in the release. “Pittsburgh is an amazing city with a very rich sports history. It has previously been a tremendous host for the A-10 Championship, both in 2017, and in the first six years of the conference.”

The A-10 is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the 2025-26 season, culminating with the 2026 A-10 men’s basketball tournament at PPG Paints Arena.

Pittsburgh hosted five of the first six A-10 men’s basketball tournaments, from 1978-82, at the Civic Arena. The tournament returned to Pittsburgh in 2017 as Rhode Island knocked off VCU to claim the title.

The meetings that laid the framework for the Eastern 8 Basketball League, the forerunner to the A-10, were hosted in Pittsburgh. And Duquesne won the inaugural championship in Philadelphia, before the next five tournaments were held in Pittsburgh.

Duquesne, of course, is coming off a sensational A-10 title run in former head coach Keith Dambrot’s final season. The Dukes swept through the tournament, which was held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and knocked off Saint Louis, Dayton, St. Bonaventure and VCU to claim their first conference title since 1977.

Duquesne has hosted NCAA Tournament games at PPG Paints Arena often over the last decade, running Round of 64 and Round of 32 matchups.

“We are thrilled to host the Atlantic 10 Basketball Championship and celebrate its 50th anniversary at PPG Paints Arena. This milestone event highlights our arena’s dedication to supporting major sporting events and delivering top-notch experiences in the region. The excitement surrounding this championship is palpable, and we are committed to making it an unforgettable experience for players, coaches, and fans alike,” PPG Paints Arena GM Gary Desjardins said.

The 2025 A-10 Tournament will be held at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., which will be the first tournament to return to the five-day format (Wednesday-Sunday).
