Pitt All 105: The Future is Very Bright for Pitt S Jesse Anderson

Pitt safety Jesse Anderson.

All-105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Jesse Anderson, redshirt freshman safety from Cardinal Gibbons in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

2023 season: Anderson redshirted and did not play in any games last season

Stats: Anderson did not record any stats last season

Camp outlook: Anderson impressed during the spring, earning praise from the coaching staff and his teammates, and I expect he’ll do the same this summer

Projected role: Anderson and Cruce Brookins are the future of the safety room, and while it may be a season too early to make a legitimate impact, the future is very bright. I expect Anderson to see the field in some capacity

Anderson (6-foot, 185 pounds) arrived at Pitt as a three-star recruit in the class of 2023, picking the Panthers over Boston College, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina State, USF and Wake Forest.

While Anderson didn’t see the field during his first season in Pittsburgh, that will change soon.

Anderson and Brookins were legitimate stars over the spring, with each boasting a handful of takeaway stickers on their helmet, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that their time will come sooner rather than later. I see a long-term duo there, a la Ford-Hamlin, Hallett-Hill. Lofty praise but the potential is there.

“The other even younger guy that has shown some maturity here in the last four months is Jesse Anderson,” Pat Narduzzi said in March. “Jesse’s had a good spring after four. So, that safety position is pretty deep right now, which is good. I would imagine one of those guys (Anderson or Brookins) is going to be out there when we get in our nickel package on third down.”

It may be primarily special teams work for Anderson during his second season with the Panthers, but he may work his way into the Delta package at times this season.

Better fit him in this season or it’s the portal. We have all these talented safeties, can’t we use any of them at corner?
