2027 WPIAL Running Back Trending Toward Elite Recruit Status

WPIAL running back Kemon Spell.

It wouldn’t be all that surprising if Kemon Spell is one of the top-ranked recruits in the country by the time his senior season rolls around.

Spell — a 5-foot-10, 160-pound rising sophomore running back from McKeesport in McKeesport, Pa. — has picked up more than a few major offers over the last couple of weeks, and he’s received another.

Florida State running backs coach David Johnson and the Seminoles extended Spell his most recent offer Thursday morning.

He also holds offers from Akron, Marshall, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, UNLV, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Spell led McKeesport with 37 carries for 517 yards (14.1 yards per carry) last season, starting as a freshman on an 11-2 Tigers squad that played eventual PIAA Class-4A champs Aliquippa close in the playoffs.

The class of 2027 is still firmly in the distance, but it’s clear that Spell will be one of the top-ranked recruits in what’s shaping to be a strong WPIAL class and one of the better running backs in the country.

Keep your eyes on another McKeesport Tiger by the name of Alex Winowich who also will be a Sophomore this year. 6 ft 230 and still growing.
