Pitt All 105: CB Rashad Battle Finally Healthy Entering Fall Camp

Pitt cornerback Rashad Battle.

All-105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Rashad Battle, redshirt senior from Creekside High in Atlanta, Ga.

2023 season: Battle missed the 2023 season due to injury

Stats: Battle has recorded 22 tackles (18 solo) in four seasons, missing all but three games due to injury over the last two seasons

Camp outlook: Pitt is breaking in an all-new cornerbacks unit in 2024-25, and Battle is one of the few corners on the roster with legitimate experience, even if he’s working back from injury

Projected role: With the uncertainty in the cornerbacks room entering camp, Battle — as one of the oldest corners in the room — is firmly in the mix for the starting rotation

Rashad Battle (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) initially committed to Pitt as a four-star defensive back out of Creekside High in Fairburn, Ga., choosing the Panthers over North Carolina State and Virginia Tech.

He made an immediate impact, playing 11 games during his freshman season and seven games during his sophomore season, serving primarily as a special teamer. He entered the 2022 season with greater expectations but suffered an injury three weeks into the season. As he rehabbed back from injury last summer, he sustained another season-ending injury.

So, Battle is somewhat of an unknown. He’s a long, physical presence on the backend, certainly much bigger than any of the cornerbacks that the Panthers have had in recent seasons, but he needs to show that he can withstand a full season now.

Battle had a few “takeaway” stickers slapped on his helmet over the spring, showing a nose for the football. Pitt will need him to step up on the backend.

If Battle can stay healthy, he will feature in the starting cornerback rotation. He was right behind M.J. Devonshire, Marquis Williams and A.J. Woods when he was healthy in the 2022 season.
