Pitt Volleyball Announces Full Schedule for the 2024 Season

Pitt volleyball. Olivia Babock and Rachel Fairbanks Win ACC Freshman and Setter of the Year honors

It’s safe to say that Pitt volleyball will once again take center stage in Oakland, and all around the country, this fall.

Pitt released its full 2024 schedule, and there are notable non-conference and ACC matchups on the slate. Pitt will play 15 squads that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season — five of which advanced to the Sweet 16 and beyond.

The Blue/Gold exhibition on Aug. 17 and an exhibition at Michigan on Aug. 24 will conclude the preseason.

Pitt opens the 2024 on the road, traveling to Eugene, Ore. to take on a talented Ducks squad that knocked off the Panthers in five sets last September and advanced to the Elite 8 in each of the past two seasons.

The non-conference slate also includes matches against Long Beach State (Aug. 31), USC (Sept. 11), Pepperdine (Sept. 13) and UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 14) out on the west coast. Pitt knocked off USC in the Round of 32 last season while Pepperdine and UCSB both qualified for the tournament.

The non-conference home slate kicks off with Buffalo (Sept. 3), Penn State (Sept. 18), East Carolina (Sept. 20), Marquette (Sept. 22) and UMBC (Sept. 25).

The crown jewel of the non-conference will be Pitt hosting Penn State at the Petersen Events Center in what could be one of the most attended matches in program history. The Nittany Lions advanced to the Sweet 16 last season.

ACC play kicks off on the road against Clemson (Sept. 27), the first of a four-game road trip that includes Georgia Tech (Sept. 29), Boston College (Oct. 4) and Syracuse (Oct. 6).

Pitt has a home-and-home series set with SMU, on Sept. 9 in Pittsburgh and Sept. 12 in Dallas, the first meeting between the two.

The Panthers then return to Pittsburgh for a four-game home stand, hosting Cal (Sept. 18), Stanford (Sept. 20), Louisville (Sept. 25) and Notre Dame (Sept. 27).

Pitt opens the final month of the regular season on the road in Virginia, taking on Virginia (Nov. 1) and Virginia Tech (Nov. 3), before returning home for another four-game home stand — North Carolina (Nov. 8), Duke (Nov. 10), Florida State (Nov. 15) and Miami (Nov. 17).

The stretch run includes Wake Forest (Nov. 22) and North Carolina State (Nov. 24) on the road before a potential pivotal final two matches against Louisville (Nov. 27) in Louisville and Georgia Tech (Nov. 30) in Pittsburgh.

Pitt, of course, is coming off a second consecutive Final 4 runs, falling to No. 1 Nebraska last December, but the Panthers are aiming higher — reloading with another strong squad.

Pitt volleyball returns five All-Americans in Rachel Fairbanks (first-team), Olivia Babcock (first-team, Freshman of the Year), Torrey Stafford (third-team), Emmy Kilka (honorable mention) and Valeria Vazquez Gomez (second-team, 2022), along with Cat Flood, Blaire Bayless, Dillyn Griffin, Bre Kelley and Haiti Tautua’a.

In-coming freshmen Bianca Garibaldi, Ryla Jones, Kiana Dinn and Mallorie Meyer will also look to crack the rotation this season — with Garibaldi and Jones arriving early to work with the team over the spring.

They may need a bigger venue for some of these matchups, particularly if they keep playing Big-10 teams at home.
