Up-and-Coming WPIAL Guard Transfers Out of State

Another talented player from the Pittsburgh area has transferred out of the WPIAL.

On Friday, Butler guard Donovan Carney announced that he will be transferring to Western Reserve Academy in Ohio. This is the same school that former North Hills star Royce Parham transferred to for his senior season this past year before he will take his talents to Marquette this upcoming fall.

Carney is a 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard who played for Butler Area in the class of 2026. Carney holds an offer from Bucknell University, and plays his AAU ball for Wildcat Select.

Over the past few years, several top players in Western Pennsylvania have left the area to play for prep schools. Last year, former Imani Christian forward Alier Maluk left the WPIAL to play for powerhouse Long Island Lutheran in New York. The Florida State commit is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 74 overall player in the nation in the class of 2025, per 247 Sports.

Amari Evans played for Bishop Canevin as a freshman before leaving to play for Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia. Evans is a three-star guard ranked in the top 130 in the nation. He is a significant Pitt target in the class of 2025.
