In-State Edge Rusher Place Pitt in Top Three Ahead of Official Visit

Pitt defensive end target Bernard Blakey

When Pitt hosts its official visitors over the next few weeks, the program will look to make a strong impression and hopefully secure some commitments from a few key prospects.

That is certainly the case when it comes to in-state defensive end Bernard Blakey arriving on campus from June 13-15. Blakey announced Tuesday on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he is deciding between three ACC schools vying for his commitment: Pitt, Boston College and Duke.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound pass rusher will make his announcement soon after he wraps up his visit with the Panthers on June 17.

Blakey, who attends Malvern Prep just outside of Philadelphia, received an offer from the Panthers and former defensive line coach Charlie Partridge on Dec. 14.

Despite not holding a ranking on any of the major recruiting sites, Blakey possesses the ability to seal off the edge and limit an opposing quarterback’s mobility. Blakey does a good job of fighting through the first point of contact to snuff out any play.

The major recruiting services, including 247Sports, have not yet ranked Blakey, but it appears to only be a matter of time until he is.

If Pitt can land Blakey, he would join a class that includes four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson (Detroit, Mich.), offensive lineman Shep Turk (Jefferson Hills, Pa.), three-star wide receiver Tony Kinsler (Port Orange, Fla.), three-star wide receiver Bryce Yates (Chesterfield, Va.), three-star defensive lineman Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and three-star quarterback Mason Heintschel (Oregon, Ohio).
