Pitt All 105: Pitt Will Rely Upon LB Rasheem Biles in 2024

All-105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Rasheem Biles, a sophomore linebacker from Pickerington Central in Columbus, Ohio

2023 season: Biles played in nine games last season as a true freshman, serving primarily on special teams

Stats: Biles recorded two tackles (one solo) and blocked an FBS-high three punts as a true freshman last season

Camp outlook: It’s Biles’ second summer camp, but it’s the first in which he’s seriously in a position to make an impact. He was one of the top performers in the spring, and I’d expect that to carry over to the summer as he works with the 1s

Projected role: Biles is in the driver’s seat to start at Money linebacker. If not for Cruce Brookins, Biles likely would’ve won the Ed Conway Award for most improved defensive player of the spring. He’s a breakout candidate on the defense

Biles (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) was a three-star recruit out of Pickerington Central, choosing the Panthers over offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Marshall, Miami (Oh.), Ohio, Purdue, Toledo, West Virginia and Western Michigan.

He missed the end of his senior season at Pickerington Central due to a torn meniscus, rehabbed and made it out for camp last summer. It was his first taste of college football, but he’s in a very different position now.

He was without a doubt one of the best Pitt defenders during the spring practice window.

“Biles is another guy, Rasheem, goes by Sheem, Sheem is an athlete,” Pat Narduzzi said in March. “He got a sack off the edge on third down today that he was about this far off the ground, crawling and he sacked the quarterback. It’s hard to do. It’s hard to bend like he did around that corner. I don’t know who the right tackle was, but we’ll see on the videotape. He’s shown that his motor just keeps getting better.”

There’s a youth movement at linebacker, considering all three starting linebackers have moved on, and Biles is right at the center of the movement.
