Elite 5-Star Pitt Target Meleek Thomas Leaving Pittsburgh Area

Published

Lincoln Park 5 star prospect Meleek Thomas was in attendance at the Pitt-Jacksonville basketball game on Friday, November 17.

Meleek Thomas will not be finishing his high school career in Pittsburgh.

Thomas, an elite five-star, top-10 recruit in the class of 2025, is leaving Lincoln Park to sign with Overtime Elite, Jonathan Givony of ESPN reported Tuesday. Overtime Elite is a league started in Atlanta, Ga. in 2021 for American and international basketball players between the ages of 16 and 20, with all players receiving a $100,000 minimum salary, signing bonus and shares in Overtime.

It’s a major move for Thomas, who is being pursued by just about every major program in college basketball. He is the highest-ranked recruit to join Overtime Elite in the class.

“I did everything I needed to do where I’m from,” Thomas told Givony. “We won back-to-back state championships. Now it’s time to be seen by NBA personnel, GMs, scouts, the people that you need to be in front of. At OTE they get your name out. Everything they do goes around the world. I want to be broadcasted more.”

Givony further reported that Thomas will preserve his college eligibility by signing a scholarship agreement with Overtime Elite that allows him to utilize NIL opportunities while in high school.

Thomas won back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA titles this season as a sophomore and junior, averaging 22.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He has been a significant Pitt target since early in his high school career and has been to numerous games over the past few seasons alongside former teammate and current Pitt guard Brandin Cummings.

Thomas released a top-12 schools list back in September 2023 that included the following programs: Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Villanova, Pitt, Tennessee, UConn, Michigan, and Auburn. Since that list was released, he has taken visits to Pitt, Auburn and Kentucky, and now has more visits on the agenda.

He’s currently scheduled to visit UConn and Arkansas this month.

Hey Robbie. Jackson just called. Told me about your problem. Dude, I hope those pills work for you. I mean small AND soft, that’s no tool to work with. You have just never had any luck. All of your pals back home wish you the best.

Hey, Rob man. Your Dad just called me again. He is sick and tired of you spending all day in his basement, masturbating to those Jerry Sandusky clippings. C’mon man, time to do something more with your life.

Congrats to the young man. Hope this leads to continued success. Pitt will be OK with him or without him…as will any other program. He may never play a minute of college Bball.

Can’t whiff on a player who was never coming in the first place.

All I can say is Bub Carrington wasn’t coming to Pitt per our friendly troll. Capal cleaned up the Scott Barnes/KS mess. Took longer than I predicted but I see a stronger team this year than last.
