Pitt All 105: DL Bam Brima Adds Positional Versatility on the Line

Pitt defensive lineman Bam Brima

All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Bam Brima, a redshirt senior defensive lineman from Loyalsock (Pa.) in Worcester, Mass.

2023 season: Brima played in all 12 games, making two starts, last season

Stats: Brima has recorded 43 tackles (21 solo), five tackles for loss, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and a pass breakup in his Pitt career

Camp outlook: Brima will work with the 1s and 2s throughout fall camp, offering valuable experience and leadership as one of the older players in the defensive line room

Projected role: Brima put together his best season as a Panther in 2023, filling as a key reserve. I don’t know if Brima is primed for a breakout season, but he’s a valuable rotational piece who can start if called upon

Bam Brima (6-foot-5, 275 pounds) initially committed to Pitt as a three-star recruit in the class of 2019, choosing the Panthers over Cincinnati, Syracuse, Rutgers and Temple.

Brima played sparingly over his first three seasons in Pittsburgh, redshirting as a freshman in 2019 before playing in nine games as a reserve defensive lineman between 2020-21. But he emerged as a legitimate rotation piece of the last two seasons — especially in 2023.

He recorded 31 tackles (14 solo), four tackles for loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup last season, filling in admirably on the edge.

With the uncertainty in the defensive line room, inside and outside, Brima will likely be called upon to feature in the rotation. His positional versatility, an inside-outside combination, has been brought up in the past, and there’s the potential for that versatility to shine in 2024.

Brima likely isn’t due for a major breakout, but he will certainly play a role in the defensive scheme this season. He’s one of the most seasoned defenders in the locker room.
