Top Pitt 3-Star DL Target Chooses Syracuse Following Pitt Visit

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for Pitt football on this Father’s Day afternoon.

Pitt added a commitment from hulking British offensive lineman Akram Elnagmi this morning, but it was downhill from there. Local target Bradley Gompers committed to Duke over a handful of schools, including the Panthers, and top defensive line target Quante Gillians committed to Syracuse over the Panthers.

It appeared to come down to Pitt and Syracuse in the end.

Gillians — a 6-foot-5, 245-pound athlete from Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y. — visited Boston College and Syracuse earlier this month and spent the weekend in Pittsburgh. But it appears the visit only cemented that the Orange were the top team in his recruiting chase.

He received his first collegiate offer from Pitt in January, and it’s a tough result for the coaching staff after putting a lot of time into his recruitment.

Pitt holds commitments from two defensive linemen in the class, three-star Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and three-star Julian Anderson (Orlando, Fla.), who committed last weekend following a successful official visit.

It does not appear that there are any defensive linemen currently scheduled for next weekend’s final official visit, but that could change over the next few days as the Pitt coaching staff looks to round out a strong month of June.

Pitt holds 12 commitments in the class of 2025:

Elnagmi, three-star wide receiver DaMarion Fowlkes (Olney, Md.), three-star tight end Max Hunt (Tampa, Fla.), offensive lineman Shep Turk (Jefferson Hills, Pa.), three-star wide receiver Tony Kinsler (Port Orange, Fla.), three-star wide receiver Bryce Yates (Chesterfield, Va.), three-star running back Ja’Kyrian Turner (Bushnell, Fla.) and three-star quarterback Mason Heintschel (Oregon, Ohio) offensively.

Three-star linebacker Justin Thompson (Olney, Md.), three-star defensive end Julian Anderson (Orlando, Fla.), four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson (Detroit, Mich.) and three-star defensive lineman Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) defensively.

So much for that beautiful new locker room.

Who are the recruiters that are supposed to be closing these kids?

Maybe Alliance 412 should chip in for a
Zig Ziegler course for these coaches?

What the heck is happening?

Losing recruits to Syracuse? Good God.

Everyone knows Fran Brown and Elijah Robinson at the Cuse are probably top 10 recruiters on the east coast and probably the country. They are going to be a problem with their Jersey roots and contacts. They are pushing all in and if he can be a head coach like he recruits look out.

well that answer doesn’t surprise me. You just ignore the point and say another school (not in your conference) sucks. Keep burying your head, but Fran Brown and Syracuse are going for it. Elijah Robinson is also a stud recruiter on that staff. You hate PSU, we get it. But how does that help with the problem I brought up?

Fran Brown is similar to Franklin. They can recruit, but can’t compete with top competitors on the field.

Where was Fran Brown’s last head coaching job where he recruited and couldn’t win?

He hasn’t had a major program, head coach position. Same as Franklin. Franklin was at Vanderbilt for God’s sake. Currently, Brown has zero wins at Syracuse, everything is hype at this point. Same with Franklin when he arrived at psu, several years later, almost no signature wins. Syracuse isn’t exactly an elite football program anyway. Far from it. Pitt landed two defensive lineman that are at least as good as this guy that just committed to Syracuse.

Nothing to cry about. The defensive lineman recruits we landed thus far are at least as good, probably better. Long way to go, many more commits to come.

It’s amazing how many fake Pitt fans are consistently on this thread. What’s worse, is that many of them don’t comprehend anything about recruiting, or, even college football in general. Pitt continues to develop NFL players with their so called ” inferior recruits.”
