Pitt’s ‘Zoo Crew’ TBT Team Adds Two Big Players

Pitt’s “Zoo Crew” alumni basketball team has officially added two new players — and they’re big additions.

The team added former Panthers Ryan Luther and DeJuan Blair, per the TBT Twitter account.

Blair is playing in the TBT for the first time, after coaching the squad last year. Recently, at Damar Hamlin’s Celebrity Game, Blair told PSN that he was considering playing in the event. Now, it’s official.

Blair played at Pitt for two seasons from 2007-09. In his second and final season in the blue and gold, he averaged 15.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, earning AP First Team All-American honors for that year. Blair was drafted as the No. 37 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs, who he would play for for the first four years of his professional career. He went on to play seven seasons in the NBA, averaging 6.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game throughout his career.

“It’s going to be at Pitt, so it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Blair told PSN. “I might coach, but I told them I might play this year, just one last year.”

Luther is a 6-foot-9 forward from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania who played for Pitt from 2014-18. Luther averaged a college-career high 12.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a senior at Pitt, prior to transferring to Arizona for his fifth season of college hoops. He has played professional basketball for five years, and is now playing in Turkey for Manisa BBSK. Last season, he averaged 12.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the team.
