Pitt Defensive Back Target Commits to Big 12 School

Pitt has built a very solid defensive back unit in the class of 2025, which was bolstered by the addition of Shawn Lee, but the Panthers won’t land every top target.

A target who took an official visit to Pittsburgh last weekend has decided to commit elsewhere.

Ayden Webb — a 6-foot-2, 170-pound three-star defensive back from Lake Highlands in Dallas, Tx. — committed to Oklahoma State Wednesday afternoon, following an official visit with Pitt last weekend.

Pitt added a commitment from hulking British offensive lineman Akram Elnagmi this week, but it was up-and-down from there. Local target Bradley Gompers committed to Duke over a handful of schools, including the Panthers, and top defensive line target Quante Gillians committed to Syracuse over the Panthers.

But the Panthers added a commitment from Lee Wednesday, adding a very talented recruit to the class of 2025.

Webb held offers from Arkansas State, Houston, Kansas, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, SMU, TCU, Texas State, Toledo, Tulane, Tulsa, UTSA and Vanderbilt before he committed to Oklahoma State.

Pitt hadn’t been on Webb long, only since Jacob Bronowski extended an offer on April 30, but clearly, the relationship blossomed over the month prior to his official visit. It just ultimately wasn’t enough to lead to a commitment.

Webb, despite an intriguing offer sheet, has not been ranked by the major recruiting services (247Sports, Rivals or On3), but he does hold a 5.5 Rivals Rating.

Pitt has other defensive back targets in the class of 2025, so the loss of Webb isn’t paramount, but it bears watching when it comes to how the Panthers will fill out the class this month — and leading up the National Signing Day in December.

Pitt holds 13 commitments in the class of 2025:

Three-star Akram Elmagni (England), three-star wide receiver DaMarion Fowlkes (Olney, Md.), three-star tight end Max Hunt (Tampa, Fla.), offensive lineman Shep Turk (Jefferson Hills, Pa.), three-star wide receiver Tony Kinsler (Port Orange, Fla.), three-star wide receiver Bryce Yates (Chesterfield, Va.), three-star running back Ja’Kyrian Turner (Bushnell, Fla.) and three-star quarterback Mason Heintschel (Oregon, Ohio) offensively.

Three-star Shawn Lee (Harrisburg, Pa.), three-star linebacker Justin Thompson (Olney, Md.), three-star defensive end Julian Anderson (Orlando, Fla.), four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson (Detroit, Mich.) and three-star defensive lineman Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) defensively.
