Pitt Hosting Four-Star Pittsburgh Native for Official Visit Starting Sunday

We’ve got an important reminder on the Pitt basketball recruiting front.

Pitt will host four-star guard Amari Evans for an official visit starting Sunday and lasting until Tuesday, he confirmed to PSN.

Evans is a 6-foot-5 guard out of Overtime Elite who began his high-school career at Bishop Canevin in Western PA.

Evans is a four star on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings and now one of the top 100 prospects in the country, coming in at No. 95 in 247’s latest rankings update. He plays for Overtime Elite in Atlanta alongside Meleek Thomas, but began his high-school career at Bishop Canevin.

Evans grew up in Pittsburgh, and although he wasn’t necessarily a Pitt fan as a kid, he still calls the Panthers his hometown team. Back in January, Evans took an unofficial visit to Pitt and broke down his experience with PSN after that trip.

“I liked seeing practice, I liked how energetic it was,” Evans told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “All of the coaches treat it like a game at practice. Yeah, I liked Pitt a lot though. I have a great relationship with the coaching staff, Coach Capel he’s a great coach, they bring a lot of energy. Jason, he’s the one that’s been recruiting me.”

Evans is having a strong summer playing for New Heights Lightning in the Nike EYBL. He has received recent offers from TCU, Georgia, Pepperdine, and Fordham, and has been looking at his hometown program Pitt for a while as well. The Panthers officially offered Evans (according to his social media) on Dec. 23, 2023.
