Pitt Head Coach Jeff Capel on the Road Recruiting the DMV

Published

on

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel is once again out on the road recruiting — this time, focusing on prospects in the DMV region — D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

According to Rivals, Capel was in the gym over the weekend watching the DMV Live event — a high-school basketball event hosted by DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Along with Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, Villanova’s Kyle Neptune, Virginia’s Tony Bennett, and other head coaches from all levels of college basketball, Capel was spotted in the stands getting his eyes on some of the talent coming out of the region.

The Panthers staff has reached out to and offered several prospects from the area over the past few years. As 2026 recruits were only recently allowed to hear directly from college coaches, Pitt took advantage and reached out to more than five prospects in the 2026 class from the three areas. In the 2025 recruiting class, Capel’s staff has also reached out to plenty of DMV-area players.

Derek Dixon, a 2025 guard out of Gonzaga (D.C.) has topped the list for a while now, having visited Pitt numerous times. In addition, there are at least five more prospects from the area that have heard from the staff. That list includes players such as Acaden Lewis (D.C.), Jordan Scott (VA), and others.

Check out PSN’s new 2026 Pitt basketball recruiting board, now live on PittsburghSportsNow.com. PSN will be tracking all of Pitt’s offers and interest lists throughout the junior and senior years of these players’ careers in high school. PSN has tracked over 30 2025 players as well as 10+ 2026 players early in their recruitments.
