4-Star Pitt Target Commits to Hometown Miami Hurricanes

Pitt linebacker target Ezekiel Marcelin

Another Pitt target is now off the board.

Ezekiel Marcelin — a 6-foot, 205-pound four-star linebacker from Miami Central in Miami, Fla. — committed to Miami Sunday morning, choosing the Hurricanes over Pitt, Louisville and Stanford.

Pitt football recruiting coverage sponsored by
RM LAW, P.C. is a boutique litigation law firm with a national practice dedicated to protecting shareholders’ interests and promoting improved corporate governance practices.

He took his second official visit to Pittsburgh earlier this month, spending three good days down on the South Side, but ultimately, the allure of the hometown Hurricanes was too much to overcome.

He picked up offers from Auburn, FAMU, FIU, Florida State, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Stanford, USF, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF, West Virginia, West Kentucky and Western Michigan during his recruiting process.

Pitt was the second school to offer Marcelin, over two years ago, and his cousin Jeremiah is currently an early enrollee freshman with the Panthers.

247Sports rates Marcelin as the 34th-ranked linebacker and 45th-ranked recruit from Florida while Rivals rates him as the 15th-ranked inside linebacker and 61st-ranked recruit from Florida. He was the top-ranked recruit in Pittsburgh during his official visit.

The sting of losing out on Marcelin is lessened by a strong finish to the final official visit weekend of the month. Pitt added commitments from three-star linebacker Emmanuel Taylor, three-star offensive lineman Torian Chester, three-star wide receiver Kha’leal Sterling and still has two unannounced Pat Signals.

Pitt has two linebackers in the class in Taylor and three-star Justin Thompson, a pair of big, athletic converted safeties who fit the mold of a versatile athlete at linebacker.

Pitt now holds 16 commitments in the class of 2025, with two unannounced Pat Signals:

Three-star Kha’leal Sterling (Miami, Fla.), three-star Torian Chester (Albany, Ga.), three-star Akram Elnagmi (England), three-star wide receiver DaMarion Fowlkes (Olney, Md.), three-star tight end Max Hunt (Tampa, Fla.), offensive lineman Shep Turk (Jefferson Hills, Pa.), three-star wide receiver Tony Kinsler (Port Orange, Fla.), three-star wide receiver Bryce Yates (Chesterfield, Va.), three-star running back Ja’Kyrian Turner (Bushnell, Fla.) and three-star quarterback Mason Heintschel (Oregon, Ohio) offensively.

Three-star linebacker Emmanuel Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va.), three-star cornerback Shawn Lee (Harrisburg, Pa.), three-star linebacker Justin Thompson (Olney, Md.), three-star defensive end Julian Anderson (Orlando, Fla.), four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson (Detroit, Mich.) and three-star defensive lineman Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) defensively.

A lot of these guys don’t keep their commitment. Pitt coming in at one of the top 2 positions for a guy like this is not a terrible thing. Yes, you want to win these recruiting battles but if Miami upsets this guy anytime from now until December… Stay close to the phone is all I’m saying. You never know.
