University Prep Linebacker Xair Stevenson Announces Commitment

University Prep linebacker Xair Stevenson announced his commitment on Sunday, choosing the University at Buffalo Bulls ahead of his senior season.

While he has close to six months to go before National Signing Day in December, Stevenson emphasized that making his decision early will help him focus on football, not needing to distract himself with competing offers and visits during a busy senior year.

“It feels great to commit early because it was so overwhelming, but I got it done and out of the way,” Stevenson said following his decision. “Now it’s time to focus on other things.”

University Prep made a run to the City League Championship Game in 2023, falling short against the Westinghouse Bulldogs despite a monster game from Stevenson, who said he’s ready to build off the disappointing result.

“I learned that we beat ourselves and I have to do more: even though I had an amazing game it wasn’t my best,” Stevenson said. “That prepared me to be better in the offseason and be a better leader.”

Stevenson chose the Bulls out of a top three that also included Temple and Toledo, along with a host of other Division 1 offers.

First-year Buffalo defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Joe Bowen offered Stevenson upon assuming his current position: he’d previously built a relationship with the young linebacker while serving as the linebackers coach at Miami (Ohio).

Xair Stevenson cited the family-like atmosphere among the Bulls as a major component in his decision, but he also made sure to emphasize the importance of education.

“The coaches and the family up there is amazing, plus the campus and the majors they have,” Stevenson said. “Three things in this world that matter most: God, education, and watching [himself,] No. 9.”
