Pitt guard Bub Carrington was drafted by the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night with the No. 14 overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft.

Carrington goes to his hometown team — as Washington is just a bit away from his home city of Baltimore.

Carrington started 33 games for Pitt as a rookie, averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. The Baltimore, Maryland native shot 41% from the field and 32% from three-point range in his freshman campaign, and alongside Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett, starred for the Panthers in the back court.

After thriving for Saint Frances Academy in his junior and senior years of high school, Carrington committed to Pitt over George Mason, Loyola Chicago, and others. He made an impact from day one of his freshman season, posting a triple double in his first career collegiate game. His triple double was just the fifth in Pitt basketball history. In that first career game, he totaled 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in Pitt’s 100-52 win against NC A&T.

Earlier this week, Carrington joined PSN on The Pittsburgh Basketball Show to talk about his career with the Panthers, give his thoughts on next year’s Pitt roster, discuss the NBA Draft process, and more.

He was joined at the NBA Draft in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center by friends, family, and teammates. WPXI reported that Carrington invited several Pitt teammates to the draft.

The 18-year-old Carrington now joins the list of former Panthers to play professional basketball, headlined by Steven Adams and more recently Mo Gueye and Justin Champagnie, among others. His selection marks the first first-round draft pick in Jeff Capel’s tenure as head coach of the Panthers.

Congrats to him. The only drawback is he now has to play for the Wiz.
