Welcome to Draft Day, Bub Carrington and Blake Hinson

Pitt basketball stars Bub Carrington and Blake Hinson are both in the 2024 NBA Draft after successful careers at Pitt.

There are currently 25 former Pitt basketball players playing professionally across 12 different countries, and this week, there is a good chance that first number increases to 27.

Carlton “Bub” Carrington and Blake Hinson have both been preparing for this week since they began their basketball careers many years ago. Carrington, from Baltimore, and Hinson, from Deltona, Florida, both excelled for Pitt last season (and Hinson the year prior too) and put themselves in position to play professionally.

Carrington has been projected as a first round pick in Wednesday night’s NBA Draft for months now since he declared while at Pitt. Hinson, while not projected to be drafted, worked out for more than half of the teams in the NBA and should have an opportunity to make a professional roster shortly after the draft.

Carrington started 33 games for Pitt as a rookie, averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. The Baltimore, Maryland native shot 41% from the field and 32% from three-point range in his freshman campaign, and alongside Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett, starred for the Panthers in the back court.

The 6-foot-8 Hinson averaged a career-high 18.8 points per game this season along with 4.6 rebounds. He hit 106 three pointers on the season, hitting 42% of his shots from beyond the arch. The Deltona, Florida native has scored more than 20 points 14 different times this year, and set a season-high with 41 points in a recent win over Louisville.

Hinson earned First Team All-ACC honors after he set numerous records for the Panthers this season, including the most three pointers in a season and the most three pointers in a game (9 against West Virginia).

The NBA Draft will be aired on ABC, ESPN, and the ESPN App, starting at 8 p.m. est on Wednesday, June 26.
