An offensive lineman who made an official visit to Pitt earlier this month has committed to another ACC program.

Byron Nelson — a 6-foot-3, 300-pound three-star offensive lineman from Katy in Katy, Tx. — visited Pittsburgh earlier this month and after he took official visits to North Carolina, Pitt and Vanderbilt, he named the three to his list of finalists.

He chose North Carolina Friday afternoon, committing to the Tar Heels over the Panthers and the Commodores.

He held offers from Arkansas State, Cal, Colorado State, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, North Carolina, North Texas, Pitt, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulane, UTEP and Vanderbilt.

247Sports rates Nelson as the 73rd-ranked interior offensive lineman and 173rd-ranked recruit from Texas while On3 rates him as the 59th-ranked interior offensive lineman and 156th-ranked recruit from Texas. Rivals hasn’t rated Nelson.

Nelson has certainly been a Pitt target, but he would’ve been the third interior offensive line commit in the class. So, while the Panthers are looking to add another offensive lineman in the class, it’s likely that the Pitt coaching staff turned their focus to other recruits.

The current crop of Pitt offensive line commits includes three-star interior offensive lineman Shep Turk (Jefferson Hills, Pa.), three-star interior offensive lineman Torian Chester (Albany, Ga.) and three-star offensive tackle Akram Elnagmi (England). Keep four-star offensive tackle Chastan Brown and three-star offensive tackle Jordan Fields on the radar.

Pitt holds 18 commitments in the class of 2025:

The Panthers have landed three-star quarterback Mason Heintschel (Oregon, Ohio), three-star running back Ja’Kyrian Turner (Bushnell, Fla.), three-star athlete Synkwan Smith (Roswell, Ga.), three-star wide receiver Kha’leal Sterling (Miami, Fla.), three-star wide receiver DaMarion Fowlkes (Olney, Md.), three-star wide receiver Tony Kinsler (Port Orange, Fla.), three-star wide receiver Bryce Yates (Chesterfield, Va.), three-star tight end Max Hunt (Tampa, Fla.), Turk, Chester and Elnagmi, offensively.

And three-star defensive end Julian Anderson (Orlando, Fla.), three-star defensive lineman Trevor Sommers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), three-star linebacker Emmanuel Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va.), three-star linebacker Justin Thompson (Olney, Md.), three-star cornerback Shawn Lee (Harrisburg, Pa.), four-star cornerback Mason Alexander (Fishers, Ind.) and four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson (Detroit, Mich.) defensively.
