There has been plenty of news in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the ACC, this week, including the addition of Cal, Stanford, and SMU.

Welcome to the ACC, SMU, California, and Stanford.

The Mustangs athletic department will officially now compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. SMU is scheduled to officially join the league on July 1. SMU recently made headlines when it announced that the school had raised a whopping $159 million preparing for its arrival in the ACC.

California and Stanford were initially scheduled to join the league officially on August 2nd. However, the ACC seems to be promoting their arrival for Monday as well.

Cal football has not had a winning season since 2019. Cal basketball has not since 2016-17, however, the Golden Bears made improvements on the hardwood last year under head coach Mark Madsen and his staff.

SMU basketball went 20-13 last year under head coach Rob Lanier, going 11-7 in AAC play. On the gridiron, SMU finished last year at an impressive 11-3 mark. The Mustangs were ranked as high as No. 17 in the AP Poll last football season, and lost in the Fenway Bowl.

Stanford basketball has had three winning seasons in the eight-year tenure of Jerod Haase. Last year, the Cardinal went 14-18 overall and 8-12 in Pac 12 action. In football, Stanford has gone 3-9 for three straight seasons. Last season was the first without former head coach David Shaw after a 12-year run leading the program.

Earlier this year, the ACC released a new scheduling model for college football season. Check it out here. There are no longer divisions in the conference for football, from 2024-2030 at the least.
