The ACC will officially welcome California to the conference this summer, and next basketball season, Pitt fans will have to be prepared for the Golden Bears as they are scheduled to play at Pitt.

Check out the summary below to get to know the Golden Bears and what they bring to the conference.

The Golden Bears have one national title in their history, coming in 1959. From 1989-2016, the program made the NCAA Tournament 14 times. However, Cal hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since that 2015-16 season that included eventual NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.

The program boasts some impressive alumni, including Jason Kidd and Brown.

Cal is on its fourth different coach since 2015. The Golden Bears hired Mark Madsen prior to last season, and Madsen turned a 3-29 team from 2022-23 into a 13-19 squad last season.

Madsen is a former player, and won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers before joining the coaching ranks. He came to Cal last year from Utah Valley.

Madsen and his staff brought in an impressive transfer class this offseason. The team’s leading scorer Jaylon Tyson (19+ PPG last year) was recently drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 20 overall pick.
