Four Western Pennsylvania Natives Make Team USA Olympic Roster

On Wednesday, Team USA officially announced its 592-person Olympic team for the upcoming Paris Olympics that begin later this month.

On Wednesday, Team USA officially announced its 592-person Olympic team for the upcoming Paris Olympics that begin later this month.

Four local products made the team, for four different sports. Western Pennsylvania will be represented in rowing, swimming, pole vault, and wrestling competitions this year.

Here are the local Western Pennsylvania competitors that will be in Paris for the Olympics.

Michael Grady – Rowing – Central Catholic

Grady competed in the 2020 Olympics, placing 5th in Tokyo. His team earned a silver medal in the recent 2023 World Championship competition. The Bradford Woods, Pennsylvania native attended Cornell.

Josh Matheny – Swimming – Upper St. Clair

In high school, Matheny broke national records for his age group (15 and 16 year olds) for 100 and 200-yard breaststroke competitions. He currently swims for Indiana University.

Bridget Williams – Pole Vault – Pole Vault

Williams is a 1x Pan American Games Winner and a 1x National Champion. She is a native of Greensburg, Pa, and she attended the University of Virginia for pole vault. Williams has trained at Virginia Tech since 2020.

Spencer Lee – Franklin Regional – Wrestling

A Murrysville, Pa. native, Lee went 4-0 at the Olympics Qualifier event in Istanbul earlier this year to make the team. Lee was a three-time NCAA Champion for the Iowa Hawkeyes and earned three Big Ten Wrestler of the Year awards.

OLYMPICS INFORMATION

The 2024 Olympics, hosted by Paris, France, will take place from Friday July 26 to Sunday, Aug. 11.
