Pitt’s Opponent Announced in Greenbrier Tip-Off Event

Pitt will open the 2024 Greenbrier Tip-Off event against the LSU Tigers, the program announced on Thursday.

Pitt will open the 2024 Greenbrier Tip-Off event against the LSU Tigers, the program announced on Thursday.

The Tigers finished last season with an improved 17-16 record, going 9-9 in SEC play just one year after going an abysmal 2-16 in the league. LSU is heading into year three under head coach Matt McMahon.

Pitt Basketball Schedule So Far

Radford – Nov. 4

Pitt will open the season with a home game against Radford on Nov. 4. Jon Rothstein reported this news in May.

Virginia Military Institute

According to Rocco Miller, VMI will be traveling to the Petersen Events Center to take on Pitt as part of the Greenbrier Tip Off Event’s on-campus series. 

LSU – Nov. 22

Pitt will take on the Tigers in the first round of the Greenbrier Tip-Off Event.

Greenbrier Tip Off Event – Nov. 22-24

The winner of Pitt Vs. LSU will take on the winner of Wisconsin Vs. UCF on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 5 p.m. The third-place game, played between the two losers of the first-round games, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m.

West Virginia (TBD)

The Panthers will host the Mountaineers. No date has been announced yet for that matchup.

The last four dates (2023-24, 2022-23, 2021-22, and 2019-20) of the Backyard Brawl have been as follows: Dec. 6, Nov. 11, Nov. 12, Nov. 15.

Mississippi State – Dec. 4

Pitt will travel to Mississippi State to take on the Bulldogs in the SEC/ACC Challenge.

This will be the third meeting between the two schools, and the first since Pitt eliminated the Bulldogs in the 2023 NCAA Tournament First Four with a one-point win in Dayton.

EASTERN KENTUCKY – Dec. 11

EKU finished last season 17-14 with a solid 12-4 record in Atlantic Sun play. The Colonels are heading into year seven of the A.W. Hamilton era. Hamilton and his staff brought in several new players this offseason, including former Virginia Military Institute big man D.J. Nussbaum, College of Charleston transfers Jordan Crawford and Mayar Wol, and more.

Better break upon the checkbook for more buy games for Coach OneBid. There’s at least 3 losses on that non conference schedule already.
