UPDATE, 7 AM: With former Mars star JJ Wetherholt selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the seventh selection in the 2024 MLB Draft, it continues a run of WPIAL first rounders.
Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review shared that there have been seven WPIAL players selected in the first round of the MLB Draft in the last 10 drafts. Wetherholt is the highest selected WPIAL recruit since the Tampa Bay Rays selected Brendan McKay fourth overall in 2017.
