UPDATE, 7 AM: Former Mount Lebanon standout David Shields signed a $2.3 million contract with the Kansas City Royals after being selected with the 41st pick in the 2024 MLB Draft last weekend.
Shields — a 6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed pitcher — was the starting quarterback at Mount Lebanon but decided to give up football to pursue his baseball career, reclassifying to the 2024 MLB Draft. He was committed to play college ball at Miami, but he will start his professional career as a 17-year-old with the Royals instead.
