Pitt All 105: P Cam Guess Returns as the Top Placeholder

Published

Pitt punter Cam Guess

All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Cam Guess, a redshirt senior punter from Belle Vernon in Belle Vernon, Pa.

2023 season: Guess played in all 12 games last season, serving as the placeholder on point-after attempts

Stats: Guess didn’t record any stats last season, but he punted the ball 12 times during the 2022 season. In three games, he averaged 35.3 yards per punt

Camp outlook: Guess enters camp as one of the three punters competing for the starting gig, behind incumbent Caleb Junko and newcomer Cade Dowd, and he will likely hold onto his placeholding duties

Projected role: Guess likely isn’t going to see much — if any — action at punter, but he’s a reliable placeholder and is the favorite to retain the role entering the season

Cam Guess (5-foot-11, 205 pounds) initially committed to Pitt as a preferred walk-on in the class of 2020, rated as one of the best kickers in the class by some outlets. He arrived as a kicker/punter but settled into punting.

He stepped into the lineup in 2022, serving as the placeholder in all 13 games and starting three games at punter — to mixed success. He averaged 35.3 yards per punt on 12 attempts in 2022, as part of an ill-fated trio of punters.

Caleb Junko won the punting competition entering the 2023 season, a competition that Guess didn’t really feature in, but Guess remained the top placeholder.

And entering the 2024 season, it’s a good bet that Guess retains his position as the holder.
