Significant NBA Free Agency Move Benefits Wizards’ Bub Carrington

On Wednesday, Bub Carrington's Washington Wizards released their preseason schedule, which includes two home games.

Bub Carrington is looking to make a big impact for the Washington Wizards as soon as he begins his NBA career.

With a move that went down on Saturday in the association, Carrington may have an even better chance to hit the ground running in a big role for the team right away.

On Saturday, former Wizards guard Tyus Jones, who played his college ball at Duke, signed with the Phoenix Suns, leaving Washington after starting 66 games for the team in his lone year in the nation’s capital.

Jones signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the franchise according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The move likely shifts Jordan Poole to the one and Malcolm Brogdon to the two position. Carrington may slide right into the backup point guard spot with this move. The Wizards also have guards Jared Butler and Bilal Coulibaly on the roster, who will both compete alongside Carrington for minutes.

Carrington was recently drafted by the Wizards with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Carrington started 33 games for Pitt as a rookie, averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. The Baltimore, Maryland native shot 41% from the field and 32% from three-point range in his freshman campaign, and alongside Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett, starred for the Panthers in the back court.

In his final game of his very first NBA summer league stint, Carrington filled up the stat sheet. In a win over the Bucks, the Wizards clinched a 3-2 Summer League record and Carrington contributed 13 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.
