On Wednesday, Azerbaijan took down Team USA in the three-on-three women’s basketball competition at the Paris Olympic Games.
Team USA, the favorite heading into both of its games so far, lost to both Germany and Azerbaijan so far. Former Pitt star Marcedes Walker competes for Azerbaijan. In the win over the United States, Walker contributed one point and had five turnovers.

For the U.S., Dearica Marie Hamby, Cierra Burdick, and Hailey Van Lith each scored at least five points. After Van Lith missed a late two-point attempt in desperation time, Team USA fouled, Azerbaijan hit the game-clinching free throws, and went home with the victory, 20-17. NIGERIA WOMEN’S SOCCER STRUGGLES
Randy Waldrum, Pitt’s women’s soccer coach, is currently leading the Nigerian women’s soccer team in the 2024 Paris Olympics. That team includes current Panther Deb Abiodun. Unfortunately for them, the team failed to win any of its three games in Paris.
“Whether Waldrum stays or goes, one thing is clear: the Super Falcons need a refresh,” ESPN’s Colin Udoh said. “As good as exposure and experience may be for the team, there have been so many sub-par performances that now could be the best time to start looking at new blood.
