After four seasons in the Big South Conference, the Robert Morris football team is returning to the Northeast Conference. The Colonials were apart of the Northeast Conference since the 1996 season but moved to the Big South prior to the 2020 season. In their return to the conference, they will join Duquesne as members of the 2024 Northeast Conference.

At the helm for the Colonials is seventh-year head coach Bernard Clark, who enters the season with an overall career record of 17-41. Bernard was the head coach for the Colonials during the final two seasons of the school’s first stint in the Northeast Conference. In that second season, Clark led the Colonials to a 6-1 conference record and a second-place finish in the conference. This led Clark to being named as the 2019 NEC Co-Coach of the Year.

Since that 6-1 conference record in 2019, Clark and the Colonials have struggled within their own conference. The Colonials have won just five of their 16 conference games since leaving the conference in 2020.

The Colonials will kickoff their season against a Division I opponent for the second season in a row when they travel to Utah to take on Utah State on Aug. 31. Robert Morris faced Air Force to open their 2023 season but lost 42-7.

The Colonials host their home opener the following week against Edinboro. Robert Morris begins NEC play the week after and opens up at home against Mercyhurst. The Colonials last met Mercyhurst in 1997 when the Colonials were downed 17-10. The two schools met four times between 1994 and 1997 with each school winning two games.

They immediately follow that game up with their first road conference matchup when they will travel to New York to play against a familiar foe in Wagner. This will mark the 27th showdown between the two schools with Robert Morris winning 15 of them.

After two straight conference games, the Colonials will face-off against Eastern Kentucky, a school that they faced three times in the past. In their last showdown in 2018, the Colonials lost a heartbreaker as they lost 40-39. The Colonials own an all-time record of 0-3 when going against Eastern Kentucky.

The Colonials return home the following weekend and host Delaware State on Homecoming weekend. The Colonials and the Hornets met one time in the schools’ histories, with the Hornets beating the Colonials 14-9 in 2022.

The Colonials stay at home for two straight conference games, the first coming on Oct. 19 against Long Island and the second coming on Oct. 26 against Saint Francis.

Robert Morris’ four-game homestead will wrap up with a non-conference game against Merrimack. This will be the first time that the two schools played against each other in football.

The Colonials then travel down the street to take on the Duquesne Dukes in Pittsburgh. The Colonials own an all-time record of 8-13 against the Dukes but won the most recent matchup in 2019, 42-21. The Colonials will then travel to Connecticut to take on Central Connecticut in the team’s final road conference game.

Robert Morris wraps up their regular season with a home conference game against Stonehill. This will be the first time in history that the Colonials will take on Stonehill.
