Adam Howanitz, a redshirt freshman tight end from Valley View in Archibald, Pa.
2023 season: Howanitz did not see the field during his true freshman season at Pitt
Stats: Howanitz has not recorded any stats during his lone season in Pittsburgh
Camp outlook: Howanitz is competing with the 3s during camp, working with the tight ends in drills as he continues to grow into himself
Projected role: Howanitz isn’t going to see the field this season, but he’ll continue to grow as a tight end after playing quarterback in high school
Adam Howanitz (6-foot-4, 240 pounds) initially committed to Pitt as a preferred walk-on in 2023, choosing the Panthers over offers from Bucknell, Long Island Post and New Hampshire.
He was a versatile athlete at Valley View, starring at quarterback since he was the best athlete on the team. As a senior, Howanitz threw for 1,379 yards (13.5 yards per attempt) with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions and added 427 yards (3.6 yards per attempt) and nine touchdowns.
It’s unlikely that Howanitz is going to see the field this season, but he will continue to work and compete with the unit as he grows into the position.
Pitt is pretty secure at tight end, with Gavin Bartholomew leading the way. Jake Overman is a firm No. 2, and Jake Renda and newcomer Malachi Thomas round out the unit.
